Laughter Moment

So my kids were talking about the books they are reading, and my youngest is reading “Aloha, Kanani”, the latest American Girl title.

They were talking about Hawaii, and somehow got to talking about farming in Hawaii, and what kind of animals they have in Hawaii.

My oldest daughter says, “Well, of course they have pigs, because at their luaus they always have pig on a stick!”

We all burst out laughing, imagining this as the latest craze in “fair food”. You know, funnel cakes, deep-fried Snicker bars, etc. We all began to lumber across the kitchen, under the impossible load of imaginary “pig on a stick”, as my poor daughter first tried to correct herself by saying, “It’s a really BIG stick!” which only had us all doubled over with laughter. ¬†She then exclaimed over and over again, “I meant pig on a spit! On a SPIT!”

What ridiculous “fair food” can you think of?

The Rainy Day

Yesterday was cold, damp, and dreary. Our front lawn was turned into a mud pit. The dreariness of the day seemed to make life in general feel dark and gloomy.

I found this poem that lifted my spirits a bit as it reminded me that somewhere behind those clouds, the sun was still there.

The Rainy Day

The day is cold, and dark, and dreary;
it rains, and the wind is never weary;
the vine still clings to the mouldering wall,
but at every gust the dead leaves fall,
and the day is dark and dreary.

My life is cold, and dark, and dreary;
it rains, and the wind is never weary;
my thoughts still cling to the mouldering Past,
but the hopes of youth fall thick in the blast,
and the days are dark and dreary.

Be still, sad heart! and cease repining;
behind the clouds is the sun still shining;
thy fate is the common fate of all,
into each life some rain must fall,
some days must be dark and dreary.
–by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

And today the sun is shining!
